Smoker Fuel Calculator
Estimate pellets or charcoal from burn rate.
How the estimate works
Fuel weight = cook hours × estimated pounds per hour × (1 + reserve % / 100).
Pellets and charcoal are different fuels and different appliances consume very different amounts. Enter your cooker manufacturer’s burn rate or a number you have measured rather than relying on a universal claim.
Worked example
10 hours at 1.5 lb/hour with 20% reserve requires approximately 18 lb.
Food safety first: Time estimates and temperatures of the cooking chamber never prove meat is safe. Verify food with a properly placed, accurate food thermometer and follow minimum internal temperature guidance.
