BBQ Rub Calculator
Estimate salt by weight and spice amounts.
How the estimate works
Salt grams = meat weight (lb) × 453.592 × salt percentage ÷ 100.
Weighing salt gives repeatable results regardless of crystal size; teaspoon measurements differ across salt brands. Adjust or skip added salt for injected, cured, brined or pre-seasoned products and dietary needs.
Worked example
For 8 lb meat at 1% salt by weight: 8 × 453.592 × 0.01 = 36.3 grams salt.
Food safety first: Time estimates and temperatures of the cooking chamber never prove meat is safe. Verify food with a properly placed, accurate food thermometer and follow minimum internal temperature guidance.
