BBQ Cost Per Serving
Budget meat, fuel, and sides.
How the estimate works
Cost per portion = (raw pounds × $/lb + extras) ÷ (raw pounds × cooked yield ÷ cooked serving size).
These are food-and-fuel estimates only. Packaging, serving dishes, taxes, equipment, and your time may add to the event budget.
Worked example
For 12 lb at $5/lb, 60% yield, 0.4 lb portions and $35 extras: about 18 portions and $5.28 each.
Food safety first: Time estimates and temperatures of the cooking chamber never prove meat is safe. Verify food with a properly placed, accurate food thermometer and follow minimum internal temperature guidance.
